While the overall guidelines for any diet or lifestyle adaptation can be complicated, the paleo and vegan diets take the cake (with ingredient substitutions, of course) for having the longest lists of restrictions and rules. They're also some of the most buzzed-about trending topics that dominate online searches, hashtags, and conversation when it comes to drastic diet changes.
So while the laundry list of items you can or can’t eat on each and the respective benefits that come from either option can be enough of an information-overload, there is also the question of which to choose and which is right for you. Bring on the pounding headache induced by hours on end of surfing the web for answers. But, what if you didn’t have to choose? What if there was a new diet that married the Prom King and Queen of the diet world and offered a slew of mutual benefits to boot?
Enter: The Pegan Diet.
The Pegan Diet takes the championed approaches of each diet to create a well-rounded, balanced, and less intimidating approach to eating. So while lean meats and eggs are encouraged (as they would not be in a strict vegan diet), there’s still recommendation to stay light on the refined grains (a no-no for paleo followers) and heavy up on the vegetables whenever the opportunity arises. So what’s a meal look like on this “diet”? For these answers (aka recipe inspo), we look to our brilliant and creative network of influencers. Here's a round-up of our favorite Pegan recipes from the Ahalogy Partner network.
1. ALISON OF FOOD BY MArS
Alison is a New York City-based Nutritional Therapist, Coach, and Avid Health Food Cook. Her blog started as a way to document her own health journey and has evolved into a platform to connect with and teach her readers to make healthy cooking delicious.
Here’s one of our top Pegan picks from her recipe collection. These Paleo-Vegan Sweet Seed Cookies are grain-free and contain less sweetener than the average dessert cookie, so they’re perfect for breakfast or tea time. Packed with sesame seeds, hemp seeds, and pumpkin puree, we can’t wait to try out this wholesome, on-trend recipe.
2. Kelly of Kelly and Cricket
Kelly decided to start her blog as a way to share her passion for healthy eating and cooking—primarily Pegan, wellness, and thrifty home crafting.
It was a huge challenge to pick from her wide selection of healthy, Pegan recipes, but one of our favorites have to be these Pegan Pumpkin Puree Pancakes with Maple Coconut Butter Drizzle. They’re grain-free and packed with nutrients from the pumpkin, coconut flour, cashew milk, and, of course, a little sweetness from the maple syrup. These Pegan pancakes just may be our new favorite way to spend a Saturday morning.
3. Our four forks
This brilliant health food blog is run by four sisters scattered across the globe, who have a passion for creating recipes that are made with real, whole foods and vegetables. Whether you’re looking for some healthy recipe inspiration or just a little advice on balance, this blog has got it all.
When it comes to Pegan-friendly salad recipes, they’ve got plenty to choose from. Perhaps the most unique is this Spinach, Mango, and Curried Sweet Potato Salad. It’s topped with an Indian-spiced coconut dressing that’s Vegan- and Paleo-friendly...We have a feeling we’ll be putting this dressing on anything and everything.
